Downsizing of engine, e-motor & batteries

... reducing weight and cost

Combined with an RVT, the engine is always operating at its optimum regime, continuously running at its maximum power level when maximum performance is requested. This is not the case with stepped gearboxes (such as Automatics, Manuals…) which will use the engine only in the region around its maximum power level. The more gears a transmission has, the closer it can get to the optimum engine speed; however, its efficiency and performance drops at every gear change.

Equipped with an RVT, vehicle performances improve significantly. Another option is to downsize the engine for cost savings without any loss on performance.

In heavy E-trucks and E-buses, several E-motors must be installed to meet the climbing and top speed requirements. At lower cost one E-motor can be combined with an SVT for the same performances.

As the SVT extends the driving range of a 3.5 ton E-truck by 16.8% (in a WLTC driving cycle) compared to a single gear transmission, 14% less heavy and less costly batteries can be installed without reducing the vehicle’s autonomy.
