Energy & emission reduction

MAZARO transmissions save 5-15% energy in transport by
- keeping the engine or motor always on its best efficiency curve
- having an exceptionally high internal efficiency

Transmissions - Energy & emission reduction

Optimal use of the engine or E-motor

The RVT provides overdrive ratios where the output runs up to 2.6 times faster than the input.

The SVT can be designed with a spread of 10. If useful, even higher spreads can be made.

The smooth ratio variation without power or efficiency dip allows the transmission controller to keep the engine or E-motor always on its best efficiency curve whatever the throttle position and whatever the vehicle speed.

Thanks to the infinite torque multiplication of the RVT, even the most aggressive launch starts with the engine at idle speed. Because of the absence of clutches or torque converter, no energy is wasted in these slipping components.

Speed ratios of the RVT for combustion engine drivelines, compared to other transmission types. Note that the speed ratios vary continuously without clutches or torque converter from reverse over standstill to very high overdrive.

Speed ratios of the RVT

Both RVT and SVT operate equally in 4 quadrants. With the same efficiency and with a specific ratio control, kinetic energy can be recovered into a generator or any other device during deceleration.

Thanks to the variable and precise ratio control, the engine brake can replace the normal disc brake function in nearly all driving conditions, which eliminates emissions of particulate matter.

High transmission efficiency

Both RVT and SVT show a high and almost flat efficiency map over the whole range of speed, torque and ratio. Very relevant is that the efficiencies stay at their high level even when changing the ratio.

The current SVT, which is installed in a demo E-truck, has a measured constant efficiency of 95.5% which is higher than any other variable transmission.

Currently MAZARO develops the next generation versions:
The RVT will reach efficiencies of 93 to 94.9% depending on design.
No other transmission for E-drives will have a better efficiency than the SVT with its 98%.

The hydraulic controls are extremely efficient. On average the current power consumption of MAZARO’s systems is as low as 1% and in the upcoming models it will stay below an impressive 0.1% of the entire transmitted transmission power.

All MAZARO transmissions are suitable for engines with a Start – Stop function.
