Activities

As a technology company, MAZARO’s main business is game-changing driveline engineering, designing and testing transmissions for automotive and industrial drivelines. For manufacturing, the company relies on established industrial partners. The disruptive transmission technology it created, is in its initial stage of commercialization. Its innovative transmissions combine an exceptionally high internal efficiency with the ability to keep the engine or E-motor on its optimum efficiency curve at all times, offering unrivalled energy, emissions and cost savings while enhancing performance and comfort. This technology is most suitable for trucks, buses, off-highway machinery, lift trucks, tractors, passenger cars (both engine driven and electric) besides industrial drivelines such as gensets and compressors. MAZARO has its intellectual property protected by four patents (three already granted) in all regions with a relevant automotive industry. Revenues will come from royalties and prototypes engineering.

At this stage, the technology is fully developed, tested on the bench and on the road, and made mature for commercialization. Recently, partnerships with production companies in Europe and Asia were set up and are being set up. MAZARO has received several prototype orders from customers intending to launch series and has expanded the team with financial and economical expertise to intensify its business development and commercialization.

FAQ

Why is the technology so groundbreaking?

The technology is groundbreaking because De Mazière created a whole new type of transmission from a blank page.

Common transmissions such as Automatics and Manuals use gears to change the ratios in steps but gear shifting means severe efficiency and traction losses.

An alternative is the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). These systems manage to keep the engine or E-motor on their best efficiency curve in more driving conditions. However, these CVTs use a belt or rollers instead of gears with much larger friction than gears and with slip, annihilating the positive effect of their continuous ratio variation.

MAZARO’s systems make drivelines more efficient and better performing as they combine and amplify the 2 advantages of the traditional systems:

  • they make the engine and e-motor always run precisely on their best efficiency curves which is unique. This is thanks to the ratio spread of MAZARO’s transmissions which is 60 to 89% wider than current transmissions;
  • their internal efficiency is the highest of all transmissions. The typical, patented curvature of the traction wheels inside MAZARO’s transmissions guarantees drill-free traction. Power is transmitted by wheels rolling over each other. The geometry of these wheels is made so that for all ratios they roll without geometrical slip. No other system succeeds in doing that; slip and wear being a major drawback of all other CVTs.

That way, the users considerably reduce their energy consumption and emissions and improve their performances.

Moreover, thanks to the relative simplicity of their design, Mazaro’s transmissions can be manufactured at a relatively low cost.

Transmissions are situated between the motor and the wheels; they can be used in engine-driven, hybrid or electric vehicles. It doesn’t matter on what kind of energy the engine runs.

What is the difference between SVT and RVT?

The SVT (Single stage Variable Transmission) is most suitable for E-mobility, with variable ratios and a  very high efficiency. It is called ‘Single stage’ because the SVT contains only one set of 3 traction wheels, whereas the RVT contains two sets of 3 traction wheels).

In current heavy duty E-trucks and E-buses the E-motor is not able to provide both the climbing capabilities and the top speed requirement with single gear reduction. The SVT solves this problem without traction interruption during smooth and noiseless ratio variation.

The RVT (Reversible Variable Transmission) is most suitable for engine driven vehicles and contains 2 sets of 3 traction wheels instead of 1 set.

The RVT drives off, changes ratio and driving direction between forward and reverse without clutches, torque converter or any other slipping component and without (expensive) gears.

Why is India such an important market for MAZARO?

ANAND, who is our Indian licensee is very well implanted there, the company having longstanding partnerships with virtually every OEM present in India in every automotive segment – two- and three-wheelers, passenger cars and commercial vehicles. They are very enthusiastic about our technology and very supportive to expand our business on their market which is huge (population 1.4 billion).

Air pollution is a big problem there so the government also promotes environmental automotive solutions intensely.

One of your trump cards is that your transmission can extend by 16.8% the range of EVs. Are there any concrete plans for this branch, since that range often turns out to be an issue for consumers?

Yes, sure. Knowing that the driving range, heavy batteries and poor hill-climbing capability are the main issues of EVs made us go for an ‘E-truck plus SVT’ demo-project here are ongoing projects with customers who build electric off-highway vehicles and others who are working on a novel wind capturing system.
